Cranks but does not start on GSL-SE

Little history on this car. Got it last year (1985 GSL-SE with 190k on original motor) and replaced plugs, wires, battery, fuel filter, fuel pump, and pro cleaned the gas tank. Ran good for awhile, but slowly became harder and harder to start and keep started. As it got colder I would have to baby it for 10-15 minutes until it warmed up before driving it.
Did not start the thing for months until the other day after getting the battery charged I went to start it but it would not. I pulled the line to see if I was getting any gas coming through and i am getting pleanty. What should I do next? Pull the spark plugs out to see if they are bad? Add new gas since the gas in it is a good 6 months old? Any thoughts would help, I am moving across town in a week and will FINALLY have a garage to work on this thing. I just dont wanna have to pay to have it towed there.

Pour a bit in the carb and crank it, may start. My bet is the 6 month old gas.

No carb. Its FI. I may just drain out the gas and try to flush the lines and add new gas tomorrow. Anyone else got any ideas?

new plugs and some oil down the leading plug holes, one ounce per rotor put plugs back and start it. make sure you do the deflooding process first, apex seals are fuel wiped now and not making compression. Once started keep the revs up for a little bit to make sure she will stay running around 1500 for about a minute to help clear the oil out. lost of smoke make sure it out of the garage.............and close the door lol.

After you get it started let it warm up good and go for a drive, be nice to it for the first few minutes as to will still be gitting rid of the excess oil, then take it for a few good hard pulls to the upper rpm range, hitting the buzzer is not needed but to say, 6k will do it. This will help to make sure the apex seals are free and to help clean out the extra oil

This is just my opinion and the way I have done thing of over 20 years, others may comment otherwise, we all have different ways of doing things, this has worked for me.

hope this helps

Joe

i wouldn't advise wasting your time with the gas. i have stored cars for years at a time and never once have i gone to start one and had trouble. over time it's potency may diminish, but i think gasoline "keeps" a lot longer than most people think.

190,000 original miles + progressively harder to start over time = check the compression.

you could try putting some gear oil in the chambers and turning by hand. see if you can get it started, then Seafoam it, but this may just be case of time has finally caught up with the engine.

I have an SE myself, 170,000 miles original engine and everything. I let it sit for three weeks while I was having too much fun with my 88, the battery died and had to push start it, no problems since. It cannot hurt to check the compression but get it started as soon as you can with a push start. It is really not bad for them. Once you get it started and to where you need to go get the idle set just right from what you described of its behavior it was succumbing to GSL-SE idle issues. If you have a chance get the injectors cleaned like I am about to do with mine. Good luck.
