crankcase venting with holley Carb and Intake?

I was just woundering since lately my oil filler nezk has been forming foamy condensation, how would you go on about doing it with a holley intake? I've seen the tutorial in the rat nest removal procedure by RX-7 carl, but that didn't help me. Also I've been reading mix stories about using an oil filter from apc or such places. some say it work some say it need some sort of vaccuum to pull it what it what?

The 2nd page of this thread shows how I did it with my Holley 650 double-pumper. I don't have a Holley intake since I have a blower, but hopefully this will help.

The foamy gunk in the oil filler neck is usually caused by cold temperature condensation. When it is cold outside, and the oil stays cool, then it does not get hot enough to boil off the moisture in the blow-by combustion gasses. Combustion gasses are primarily CO2 and H2O, and if the oil is cool, then the H2O will condense in the oil and form an emulsion which is the gunk you see. The only sure fire way to prevent the water/oil gunk is to keep the oil temp above 100deg C or 212 deg F for many minutes at a time - and that is very hard to do in cold weather conditions.

alright so I just read up your thread (I prob didn't find it because it was called lung mustard) and just have a few questions

So when you said you had it setup wrong when you were writting it, what did you mean by that exactly?

Also from what car is that PCV valve from?

Compiling data:

Threaded end towards vaccuum source (so would i be able to let say drill a whole in the manifold the same size as the pcv valve thread tap is the same thread and insert it in there?)

Then I would get a hose from the other side of the PCV valve to the oil filler neck.

Lastly just get an oil filter for the center plate nipple.

Also Rich,

Have you gotten your car on the dyno yet by anychance? I would like to know your TQ and HP # more interested in your TQ# though.

Hi dj55b - see my answers in bold below.

If you mean this statement: "As I'm writing this, I realize that I put it on the wrong port...I'll need to move it tomorrow." I meant that I put it on the wrong carb nipple. Earlier in the thread in the picture below I pointed out that there are two of the smaller nippiles on the carb, and I had run the pcv hose to the wrong one.

Also from what car is that PCV valve from? I really don't know...I just went to Autozone and looked through the selection they had on the board.

Compiling data:

Threaded end towards vaccuum source (so would i be able to let say drill a whole in the manifold the same size as the pcv valve thread tap is the same thread and insert it in there?) I don't know for sure on this one...hopefully someone else will pipe in.

Then I would get a hose from the other side of the PCV valve to the oil filler neck.

Lastly just get an oil filter for the center plate nipple. Yep

Also Rich,

No, not yet...I have a really big pulley on the blower so it's only pushing about 2 pounds of boost. That was for breakin but just haven't gotten around to ordering a smaller one ($100). I'm going to be pulling the motor to get the car painted this winter, and when I get everything put back together in the spring I'll put a smaller pulley on it and get it dyno'd.

Sam, as far as which pcv to use, hit the Help section at the parts store and pick one out that has ends that will fit your tubing. Since all a pcv is is a oneway valve, blow through it to determine correct orientation. Your RB intake should have a 1/8" barb, or a plug where you can install one, usually on the primary runner of the front rotor.

If you are still running a charcoal canister, connect the pcv hose to the other nipple on or near the filler neck.

no charcoil canister,

I'm going to look around the carb today but I don't remember seeing a nipple right under the boat. The one ontop I think that I was using for something else.

Alright so i just installed the PCV valve a few minutes ago. I used the nipple on the plate inbetween the floats and the carb. I just had it blocked thats what was there. and good thing that I did have it blocked cause i had to use the silicon hose around it. so this was my shopping list:

2 feet of 5/16" clear hose (29cent/foot)
Mitsubishi PCV (8.45$)
4 mini white zip ties

I'll get some pictures of it once my batteries are done charging. For the carb nipple I had to use the silicon hose that was on there cut it to the length of the nipple because the nipple was way too small for the hole and it turned out to be a really tight fit over the hoses.

As for the oil breather i couldn't find one at the couple of stores and didn't know what you guys were using, but a quick check on ebay and it looks like the breather are either for motorcyle or ATV or vw bug applications. The VW bug one looks to be the best one. So that'll be the next on the shoping list.
