Crankcase ventilation problems (LONG)

Hi Folks

I've swapped a 1980 12A engine into a 73 RX-2 and I'm having major crankcase ventilation problems. I actually blew the dipstick right out of it's home, and now I blow oil all over the engine compartment when ever I exceed 3000 RPM. If I plug the hole with something, the engine makes no power and will barely rev up. As soon as I unplug the hole, it makes power again, and creates a huge mess under the hood.

I currently have a 1973 carby and intake attached to the engine, and I'm using the stock 73 PCV valve (goes under the carb in the manifold itself). When I put the manifold on I cleaned the valve, it clicks when I shake it, so I think it is functional. The PCV valve has a hose going over to the middle of the oil filler neck. The other little tube at the bottom of the oil filler neck should have a hose going to the air cleaner for filtered intake, but currently has nothing on it. I left the hose off so I could observe what it does while I rev the engine. When I rev the engine while parked, I can see that oil is actually emitted from this tube, rather than sucking in air as I believe it should.

This engine has no rats nest, no emission valves of any sort, no air pump, no cats. etc. It doesn't have the little CV valve either - I think I need it badly.

My PCV system obviously isn't working - the engine shoots oil out the dipstick tube or oil filler neck in an emulsified vapor form, and oil runs out the small tube at the bottom of the oil filler neck in a liquid form whenever the engine is revved above 3K RPM.

Is there a way to tell if this problem is simply a faulty PCV system or am I actually leaking compression past the side seals into the crankcase and literally blowing the oil out of my engine??

I've looked at the tutorial from Carl and Pratch about removing the rats nest already - my engine never had a rats nest (or it's CV valve) and I don't have the spacer plate that goes under the carb so I don't have all the vacuum fittings to retain what is needed. Does anyone know what the minimum parts needed are to get CV working again on an 80 engine?

I need to piece together an 80 style CV system from scratch. I have a late 12A intake (not sure what year but it has a shutter valve - see other thread) that I think I'm going to put on, while keeping the 73 carb. I'll have to put a vacuum tree on the manifold or something to get enough ports to feed the distributor advances, and the multiple CV fittings.

thanks in advance

Yesh, what anthrax said.

And look at the "lung mustard" bit in the FAQ for instructions on using a real, honest-to-god PCV valve.

Hmm... Maybe Carl might know... I remember there being Crankcase Vent stuff in the Emissions Removal Tutorial.

Check it out at http://maz_tutorials.ten15.net/
I don't know if it has the info you need, but it's the only thing I can think of.

Anyone else?
