CP Rack kit... Won't Work?

I have a Right Hand drive car and CP says the kit will not work for it.

They would not give me anymore info than that however.

I know that the Rabbit VW rack can be turned over as that is how VW handled their Right Hand Drives.

Do you all think it would be just a matter of making new brackets?

Any idea?

Also I have a Turbo in my car. Does the steering shaft go through near the frame rail or do you all think it would bump into the Turbo Charger.

Thanks!!

Thomas

I think it has to do with the subframe they built for the rack, the rack will probably only go on one way.

The frame that holds the rack is biased to one side because the rack is not centered. It wouldn't work to just turn the rack over.

It works for the Rabbits though purple82.

you are better off making your own kit rather than buying one for 500 or whatever dollars and hacking it up

I doubt VW handled their RHD cars by turning the rack over. If you do that, and don't switch from front steer to rear steer (or vice versa), the car will steer the wrong way -- just think about it for a second. There are racing racks that can do what you're suggesting because the pinion sticks out both sides.

At any rate -- the pinion needs to stay on the top of the rack for your rack throws to be correct, whether the pinion is on the left side of the rack or the right side.
