Covered 1 million times "Exhaust"

Ok i did some searching and all i got was crap.

I am looking for a final answer:

I have a RB header, welded straight pipe to the muffler connection.

If i install the RB muffler will the car be quiet enough to use as a daily driver?

My pipes are all welded so taking them apart for the silencer is not an option.

Please anyone with this set up can comment?

Jay

I went from RB header -> presilencer -> stock center pipe/muffler

to

RB header -> presilencer -> stock center pipe -> RB muffler

and let me tell you, the RB muffler made the car much, much quieter and also gave it a much deeper tone. The difference was almost night and day on my car.

I was told my car was loud with racing beat road/race header to straight pipes to random muffler, but I didn't think it was all that bad. Sure it was loud, but far from intolerable.

I'd be interested to see a video and hear what that set up sounds like. Are you still running the stock manifold or header?

this is with header, don't believe it's RB. video doesnt get good sound, but i will have some more with better quality when i am done editing the 2006 Midwest Rotary BBQ film. Trochoid said my exhaust has one of the nicest tones from a first gen.

I did kgray's 1st exhaust with a set of headers and other parts I had laying around the shop. Sounded like ***, but I've done worse. It was temporary until he could afford to do the entire system. When he came back with it finished, it is one of the best I have heard.

I did an SE with headers and a glasspack, the kid that owns it now, loves it. Sounds like ****, he's not a rotary guy, yet.

Fwiw, yeah, not only will it be too loud, they sound not only like ****, they sound broke.

I'd like to hear how RB header to just an RB muffler would sound. I don't really mind being loud just so long as it's not overberring. I'd be more concerned with a good tone.

RB header to straight pipe to RB muffler on a 12A SP engine. Sound from inside the car, windows opened, engine revved to 8k in 1st and 2nd gear.

X2. The header with the presilencer and stock center pipe and muffler was OBNOXIOUS and loud. I would never run it like that. Once I put the muffler on, it was beautiful.

Outside the car:

The exhaust setup was ok. If I were to do it again, I'll probably go with a 4 port 13B on a weber or dellorto though.

See my sig for a sound clip of my exhaust.

Setup is: Single outlet RB header/RB mini presilencer/Magnapulse perforated silencer/Borla Turbo 2 1/4 in/offset 2 1/4 out. This setup is totally legal as it is under the specified 86 dBA when measured 15 feet away from the car while revving to 3000 RPM.

So long as you run a RB muffler,I REALLY dont think it matters what you have in front of it,its gonna be pretty damn quiet......definately quiet enough for a daily driver.

Ive run RB mufflers from the get go.....with every combination of engine Ive had in my car over the years......
Stock manifold 12A
Headers and presilencer 12A
Headers and cat 12A
Headers and presilencer 13B
S4 turbo and cat 13B
S5 turbo and cat 13B

Ive used the regular RB and the SP version....neither were/are loud enough to attract any unwanted attention.I got pulled over once by a sheriff because he thought it was loud, but once I had stopped,I revved it up for him and he even admitted that it wasnt loud at all.He still wrote me a noise ticket, because that was FAR better than an exhibition of acceleration ticket......I took it into the refferee and had it tested.....passed CA noise emissions test by 2 decibles, even with the raspy S5 split turbo housing and the louder SP version RB muffler.

Even without the presilencer,a bowl of Rice Crispys can drown out a regular RB muffler.
