counterweight must match the engine rotors.
essentially all lightweight flywheels are the same 12a or 13b.

Correct.

The S4 and S5 rotors are the same weight between the N/A and TII engines.Since the TII was never sold with an auto, the N/A rear counterweight is used when doing a light flywheel on a TII engine.

Anyways......to put a TII trans onto a 12A,you have two routes you can take.....

1st.Use the stock 12A flywheel and get the 1st gen clutch thats splined for a TII tranny.RB sells it,its not expensive but its also not the most streetworthy clutch in the world. And youll still have a heavy 12A flywheel, with the taller TII trans gears you might experience a drop in performance.

2nd.Use the correct 12A auto trans rear counterweight for your series engine. Then get an aftermarket light flywheel and clutch for a TII.They will bolt right up to the weight and will complete the connection between the engine and trans.Youll have better performance from the light flywheel, and more holding power from the larger TII clutch.

Behind an N/A 12A engine, the TII tranny should have a life expectancy of about 4,000 years....

So the equation is:

12A auto trans rear counter-weight(not manual counter-weight), TII flywheel, TII clutch and a TII trans mission.

On the manual cars, the counterweight is built into the flywheel, hence the reason it cannot be used.

there are 2 counter weights used on the 12a 79-82 and a different one for the lighter 83-85 rotor engine.
go back to maxdatrix and look in the flywheel section, rear counterweights.

If you call rb and order their Light weight steel flywheel it comes with the right counterweight as long as you order the flywheel per what rotors your running in your motor. Well at least when I ordered mine I told them it was for an S4 NA motor going into a gsl-se.

As stated before......
There is NO manual trans rear counterweight. On manual trans engines, the rear weight is part of the stock flywheel.

So your order will be.......

1.....12A auto trans rear counterweight, appropriate for your 12A engine's year
2......TII aftermarket light flywheel, either steel or aluminum
3......TII clutch, any brand or stage will work
4......TII tranny,starter,clutch slave cylinder,custom driveline

Find a pre-79 bellhousing so you can use your stock flywheel, clutch and starter.
