I have my exhaust all hooked and I love the power gain. But my fuel system sucks. And I am running out of fuel at the end of second.

I want to go with a carter and a holley 1-4 for my fuel system. I know nolthing of fitings shapes and sizes so if someone could list all the parts I need to that i could get at summit racing that would be great. I sort of understand how to hook everyything up but I dont know what fiting adapters I need to hook these peices up.

Pics of instalations and what to hook up where would be great also.

when you say "threaded kind" do you mean you're changing all of your lines to stainless steel braided lines?

no, the fuel lines going to the nicki just slip over a metal tube on the carb. The regulator has threaded ports. Isnt there some kind of adapter.

.

You need to buy 3/8" NPT fittings for the reg. which are not included. Go to a local hardware store for that.

take the FPR with you and test fit the fittings. Also if you can get some teflon sealant spray or paste for the threads not the tape. I got some pictures of my installation but my computers is a mess...I call it the black hole...I got so many pictures (no not ****) but I loose 'em all the time...I should be more organized...

Get 90 degree fuel fittings for the Carter to replace the ones that come in the box. I can't remember the exact size; it's different from the regulator. Just bring your pump with you to the store and find the right ones to fit.

Do *NOT* use teflon on the fuel pump!! Leave it dry and it will be fine. I repeat, don't use teflon!

I used 90 degree fittings on the reg too, but whatever you want for that. Feel free to use teflon on these.

Have a bunch of 3/8" fuel line handy when you're setting all of this up.

What are you talking about?

The Carter is far more than adequate for our applications. It flows more fuel than we could ever use! So what's the problem?

Why should I spend more money for something I don't need when what I have is already way overkill?

Tons of people run this pump and are happy with it - do you have any valid reason for your criticism?

Use Loctite thread sealer on all the fittings including the fuel pump. There's a good chance it will leak if you leave it dry.

Revhed,

I left mine dry and it did not leak. Also, the instructions specifically state not to do this. The first pump I got died right away, so let's just say I suspect I may have learned this the hard way. I still advise against it.

The instructions say not to use teflon tape on the fittings. This is because the tape can dislodge and clog the pump up.

Loctite on the other hand makes a thread paste that is designed for use with fuel.

And by using a sealant you don't have to crank the fittings down so hard either which is good... especially when trying to get 90* fittings pointed in the right direction.

It's definately a better idea to seal the fittings correctly than have the possibility of fuel pissing out all over the place

Hmmm.. good point. I did use that loctite paste (not tape) in the first place... I'm not saying that was my problem, but it led me to wonder.

I guess what I'm saying is that it's not necessary, in that I didn't have any leaks without it.

I used gas-safe teflon tape on mine. As long as you're careful applying it and dont change the fittings out all the time, you're in no danger of having tape get into the pump. But you have to use the kind for gasoline (yellow) because it won't slowly break down like the white stuff. Same goes for the pastes.

I am not sure how to hook up the reg.

THe big one ,from the pump goes to the inlet on the reg.
The smaller one, the return line goes to the port on the side

And the one on the front goes to the carb. And the return line port on the carb is plugged.

Am I right.

I fricking used teflon tape (don't use it)...I should have used the paste or liquid kind...mine did leak at the pump (carter) before sealing...

Carter + Holley reg = best bang for the buck.

About the setup you got it all wrong. Big line coming from the tank goes to the reg. from the reg to the carb...then carb return to the return line to the tank. You will need a fuel pressure gauge...start off with 2 psi and make sure your carb does not flood. If you can then increase the pressure a tad. I run about 2 psi on mine, but that is my case...some folks run a lot more pressure. I have a 79 carb which I modded big time...

Just to clarify... the reg. has two outlets. One goes to the carb and the other can be used to install a pressure guage. If you don't have a guage you'll need a threaded plug to block it off.

so the smaller line stays on the carb. and the big one goes to the reg. That makes sence.
