Could a rich idle cause overheating?

I've been busy with school for the last little while. So I haven't had much time to spend with the 7.

I've been chasing a few bugs. With the upcoming Calgary meet she has to be on her best behavior. So I've been working on her.

1) I've been having problems keeping it cool. Temps like to rise when sitting in traffic.

2) It's been idleing like crap.

Anyhoo...today I had some time, adjusted the carb. I needed to lean out the idle alot. Now it idles perfect (engine is still fresh about 15000 KM on a rebuild). It also appears that my overheating problem has gone away. I went for a good long drive some highway, and some in the city during rush hour traffic. The temp guage didn't get above half way.

I'm going to replace the thermostat regardless, as I had it out and it's not funcioning 100%.

I was just curios if the poor idle would cause the heating gremlins I've been chasing, or is it just my mind seeing a solution?

Thanks in advance
