Corvette third brake light on 1st gen 7

So about a week ago I drove past a vette and its third brake light really stood out to me and I began to think that might look pretty good on a first gen 7! so now ive got one lined up to buy. tell me what you think and ill post pics once I get it installed. Here are some pics of my car, the light I'm buying and some vettes with the brake light.

The light on the C4s looks like a hack on pod added after the fact to comply with federal regs, which is really all it was. The 84 and 85 cars look a lot cleaner with out it.

I think it would also look like an add on hack on the 7 -- don't ruin your pretty roof line.

I don't think they look that bad. Plus we have a lot of rednecks here with huge trucks and I just figured it'd make it easier to see me stopping.

Sorry, but it's got no business on an 80's car IMO. Only taxicabs had them in the 80's.

This picture was taken back in 1990, and these light kits were available at the time for retrofit onto cars to comply with the law. Granted, it wasn't required, but at the time, it seemed to make sense, and all the new cars had them. This is my 1980LS, 12a;

Personally, I say to leave it off, don't think it'd look that good.

Sorry to threadjack, but what wheels are those?

i don't think it looks too bad, i was actually thinking of something along those lines since i know its hard for other drivers to see our brake lights. but i think if you could find one that mounts on top from the inside, that will look even better.

Why ruin the roofline? Can't you try mounting it under the glass like most modern CHMSL? I think it would still preserve the lines of the car while allowing you that modern quirk of 3 brake lights.

i really don't think the RX-7 would look nice with the third brake light. i have a Corvette and its pre 87 (before the third brake light) and i think i prefer it without the third brake light:

No offense, but your car looks like there are plenty of other areas that can use attention. May I suggest you focus on them first and deal with the brake light when you have nothing else to play with (which will be never).

JoeNoble,

I too want a 3rd brake light but I wouldnt mount that one on top as it will take away from the look of the car. If you want to do something, try to figure out a way to maybe mount it inside near the top of the hatch. I was thinking of finding or making an LED type 3rd brakelight due to the fact that they can be made very small. Just my opinion.
