cooling fan switch?

I was wondering if this is the thing that is hooked to the back of the water pump? I have an 85 gsl and the wires on this thing are broke. I ordered another one from victoria british and when it came the threads were alot smaller in diameter than the one I have on there now. Did I just get the wrong thing or are there two size diameter sensors? The thing I'm talking about screws into the rear of the water pump and has two wires that connect to the same wiring harness as the alt. The car does not run hot so I really don't even know what this thing does. Thanks, Vic

I think thats the choke sensor. It tells then choke when to shut off. As I said...I think. Im not sure because thats just some garbled information in my head that I may have mixed up with something else.

Anyone have any other information on this thing? what it does, why I would need it. I don't have it and it seems my car starts ok, even in the cold.

If your car is fine without it, Then forget about it! Seems to me, there is alot of un-needed things in these cars.

As RotorMotorDriver said, it's the choke switch.

From the FSM:
"Water temperature switch (No 1)
Holds choke on below 70*C
Operates hot start motor above 70*C
Below 70*C : closed"

I have an -SE so I don't know how useful it is, but I would have thought it would be necessary to hold the choke on manually when it's cold.
