Coolant Seal Repair Price?
Alright, so I have a 84 GSL-SE and the coolant seal is totally gone. My motor is flooded with antifreeze and won't event start. Ok, so Im trying to sell it and a guy made an offer, but he wants to know how much it would be to replace the seal. Anyone know????

At a minimum..assuming you didn't go the block seal route..is a soft seal set. That will run about $150 or so, but you have to remove the engine and tear down/rebuild to do it. Often people will want/need to replace springs, hard seal, etc. while in there.
A full rebuild will run 1k+. Depends on how much needs replacing. This is assuming you do the work yourself and already have the tools.

oh wow! well the thing is that I don't have the time to work on it, cuz im going back to school and work. I just don't have the time. So I was going to sell the car the this guy for like 1K, cuz the motor only has 81K original miles. and i think he was wanting to take it somewhere to get it fixed. so what should i tell him??

The only way you can "just" replace the coolant seals is if the rest of the internal parts are reusable....but with 81K...it will most likely need a full rebuild.
Engine kits are a little over $1000, plus R+R, resurfacing side housings, new water pump, then finding a reputable builder. Figure $1500-$2000 for a complete rebuild....not to mention any porting that may be desired...

I had the same problem.
Are you sure it's just the seals or not a big crack in the housings somewhere? Mine had a few cracks in the coolant lines and needed a rebuild, i just got a completely different engine though since the old one was so rusted. Cost me about $3,500 after everything including replacement of small parts and other junk i.e. spark plugs, new coolant, oil etc. It gets expensive considering the car originally cost me $1,300, worth it though.
The most amazing thing is that it was actually running for quite a while with the cracked coolant lines, i started it up a few times and backed out of the drive way and could hear some kind of liquid slushing around, i couldn't figure out what it was until the engine finally died and had it inspected, it was coolant inside the engine moving around.

Check the link that Firebirdslayer666 posted. I've got a couple thousand miles on the motor now, and race it on weekends. My issue is completely solved, and it only took a few minutes and less than $4.00 to do. I figure its worth a shot anyway. Good luck.

Full rebuild from a decent shop will run 2k+, depending on parts needed. With 81k, it may be possible to reuse the apex seals if they're in spec. A full gasket kit will run around 200, replacing all of the springs and corner seals is strongly advised. If any of the major hard parts need replaced, irons, housings, rotors, price escalates quickly.
Some of the bigger rebuilders offer a core exchange program, which will run over 2k by the time all the shipping charges are paid. You can try finding a good used engine in the for sale section, but that can be an iffy gamble The only way to get around the 2k+ price is to do the work yourself. If you or the potential buyer doesn't have the time or experience to take that on, keep looking for another buyer.
If the body. interior, etc. is in better/excellent condition, stand firm on your 1k price, it's worth it, providing there's no body damage or rust. Sadly, you can probably get that much out of it by parting it out.

This isn't some POS FD. 81k is barely broken in for a 1st-gen engine. I'd bet everything is in great spec inside.

I say, that if it survives Ken's racetrack weekends then it should be an okay fix for your motor.
