Coolant Level Sensor

I need to know if the coolant level sensor on my '84 (the one in the top of the radiator with one bullet connector) is normally open or normally closed. I threw out my original one because I'm not using a coolant level sensor anymore with my new radiator, and I need to know what to do with the wire -- nothing or ground it?

If you have one in your car, unplug the connector and check continuity between the sensor lead and ground while the radiator is full. Or if you have one out of the car, do the same test. Either way will let me know.

Thanks in advance.

OK -- I'll put it another way . . . If I don't want my idiot light to illuminate, do I need to ground the sensor wire or let it float?

it would take you less time to try it both ways, then sitting here waiting for a response.

I already did, but my car's all torn apart while I'm working on the wiring, and the result was inconclusive -- the light stayed on both ways (but then all the lights are on). I want to be able to button up my harness and call it "done".
