Coolant leak need some help...

I was going to head up to Rotorfest tomorrow with my '83 RX-7, but, I might not be able to take it now.

Close to home one of my coolant hoses split. Its the one that runs under the beehive cooler and I assume into it.

So, can I fix it? Do I just need to get some hose, cut it to length and replace the one that burst? Its the one that's pretty long and goes all the way across the firewall.

I haven't done this before, but, I'm willing to give it a shot.

Help!

I think I located the part at the parts store. Now any tips on the replacement?

Get new hose clamps too. The stock clamps suck. It's pretty eay to replace the hose.

http://www.mazdaformance.com has the parts catalog in pdf format. Found that tip here doing a search.

Had to go to Pep Boys cause the dealer's parts department was closed. Got two pieces of hose with a fitting and the clamps. I guess its the heater hose. Wish me luck.

Is there anything I need to watch out for when putting the coolant in. I imagine a tone of it has/will leak out. Do I just fill it up with 50/50 distilled water & eth glyc coolant. Or do I need to worry about bleeding air from the system etc.

To fill it up since it's leaked so much, unbolt the top rad hose and take out the thermostat. Fill it up from there, the put the thermostat back in and bolt that hose back on. Now fill it up the rest of the way from the radiator.

You can have your motor running when you put in the anti freeze and let it run for a bit with the radiator cap off after filling. That will alleviate any air locks

Ok...it's replaced...

It's replaced! Thanks for the help guys. I definately needed the tips.

I replaced the whole hose with a Pep Boys two piecer. Basically a short piece with an elbow and a long piece with an elbow held together by a double nipple fitting and clamps. hehe I said nipple :-) Definately needed to cut it to fit, but seemed to work well. I guess I'll find out.

I left it run while filling and rev'd the motor about 10 times. Watched the level rise and then heard the bubbles come out a couple times. Nice! I'll do that again tomorrow...'cause I'm paranoid.

Soooo...it looks like I'll go to Rotorfest after all. I'll take it for a run before I go and make sure there are no leaks after its been up to temp for a while.

Again, thanks alot!
