i have coolant sitting on the top of the engine where the intake bolts up. it is not the thermostate housing. what else could it be? does coolant run through the intake manifold?

Yes it does, replace the intake gasket.

Drain the coolant first though.

really cheap i think they were like $5 CND
Coolant is a bitch to not let get all over the place. There isn't a drain plug so you have to disconnect a hose if i remember correctly

Yup. I replaced the intake gasket and got coolant all over the place including inside the engine. what a mess. Then I realized that I needed new radiator hoses, and got coolant all over the place. what a mess. I still don't know how to avoid getting coolant all over the place.

You can plug the holes in the block so coolant doesn't **** out whenever you take the manifold off. I used a couple of 20mm freeze plugs and some RTV.

Drain the coolant from the plug beneath the oil dipstick.
