Coolant Additives Wrecking the motor?

I just got back from meeting with the RC3 club and heard some things about water wetter (and possibly purple ice) destroying the seals and causing big coolant leaks/engine failure. Has anybody ever heard of this happening?

I cetainly hope not. I have used it for years in all of my engines and never had a problem.

If it is a problem I'd like to see some info that has been gathered because alot of members have also used these type of products for years.

Always used WW in my vehicles and the diesel version of WW in my work trucks.....no problems in the last 10 years.

Somewhere,somehow.....somebody is gonna have a failure thats directly or partially connected to using a product. The timing and circumstances can be such that the product is blamed soley for the failure when in fact, multiple variable are to blame. The WW might have been the last straw in a string of bad maintenence practices,or the timing of the failure might have been such that the WW was left holding all the blame.

I'm going to try and dig up some info from the guy I heard it from and see where he got the info. Heck, he might even read this and be able to post directly.
