hey there, ive been noticing over the past little whlie my car has been using quite a bit of antifreeze/coolant. i filled up the overflow resivoir and its already down to like almost empty, and i filled it about 2 weeks ago...
maybe i have a coolant leak somewhere? what are the common places for a coolant leak, maybe in the rad hoses?
or maybe does this car use a lot lot of coolant?
any help is appreciated.. thanks!

 

Seeing as you didn't mention clouds of white smoke, we can assume you haven't got a bad water seal. So, I'd just take the car to a rad specialist shop and get them to pressure check it. It's probably the easiest way.

PS. My car doesn't use up coolant at all, so you've surely got a leak if you notice the level dropping.

This white smoke, of a water seal leak, is it all the time, or just at startup. I get a nice puff of white-blue smoke at startup, and I've noticed some additional smoke while waiting at stoplights...looks white. I've also been losing coolant at an unhealthy rate of speed, and I've yet to find an external leak.

Looks like I might have the water seal kiss of death on me hands. Rats.

In my experience, water seals will actually cause the overflow to fill, not to drain. The car will start blowing combustion gasses into the coolant system which then displace the water out into the bottle.

You will use coolant, but you won't be adding it to the overflow... You'll start filling the motor directly at the rad.

I suppose if the seal leak were in the intake portion of the housing that it would draw coolant in, but I've never heard of it...

Try checking for leaks elsewhere in the system or checking the water pump before you start saving for a rebuild

 

White blue is generally oil. Pretty normal on a not new motor. I woldn't worry...

 

well my car runs quite well, like no problems, lots of power etc.. no smoke at all while running, only steam coming from exhaust pipes when starting, no cloud of smoke.. but yea lots of coolant must be leaking, cause theres no other explanation as ot where its going...
