Control Rod end spring?

So, I am putting a 2nd get transmission in my FB. Both the 2nd gen tranny and the tail shaft I swapped on had the spring that is on the control rod end poped off. Anybody know how it goes back on? I can't seem to find any pictures.

This is the spring that keeps the shifter centered. I have the two other springs installed fine. It even shifts into every gear. It just does not center when you take it out of 1st. I hope to have this fixed by Saturday so I can get the car back on the road.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hmmm im no expert on this at all, but when my shifter wouldn't recenter itself the problem was it needed some oil for lubrication under the shifter shaft boot... but like I said I haven't messed with a control rod end spring before. Maybe someone else can be of more help?

This is a 2nd gen tranny that I am converting for use in the 1st gen. (well, the 1st gen shifter housing) I know the spring is off. :P

The 87 FSM has better detail than the 1st gen ones on tranny rebuilds. Find the diagram on p. 7A-11 in the 87 FSM, you'll figure it out from there.

Hmmm, Does the long end go into the hole that is in the select lock spindle? I will have to play with this tonight and see if I can make it work.
