Thank god the truck was low enough...

yep some dumb *** rear ended my RX7... 4 week old owner. The truck was a later '90 model ford F-150. It look about 98 or 99. ... the good news is that the trucks bumper was low enough that is caught the Rex's bumper and the rear end was saved. My GF has mild case of whip lash, but she is ok.

So i guess I have to buy a new bumper now for the car. i think that everything else is ok. they had insurace so i beleive that i will get a check or be in a law suit that i really don't want to go though. but i guess i will see what i can get. original parts might cost some moeny don't know what do yall thing... i beleive from the looks of it i'm going to have to replace the inner and outter bumper.

Oh well will just need to get a price form a body shop... maybe i can get the car painted as well because it will never match paint. hmmm.

Get a quote for a brand new parts and matching paint, then get used parts and paint the whole car.

Glad nobody was seriously hurt. Cars can always be fixed/replaced. :-)

New bumper covers and inner bumpers are not cheap for our cars... So be careful the insurance man might want to wirte off your car.

The rear bumper skin can be close to $400.00 alone (new), I have no idea how much the inner parts are, plus add paint, your easily into a g-note.

Good luck and i hope your g/f is alright!

they would seriously total it out just for being rear-ended? Now I'm even MORE glad I didnt hit that deer last night. (Last night I came literally less than an inch from nailing a deer that darted out in front of me. my bumper might have even hit her back leg... I praise the rotary gods that blessed my car with such light weight, responsive brakes and tight handling...)

edit: oh and I'm really glad you and your girlfriend arent hurt, and hope that they dont total out your car... sue the crap out of that punk in the F-150, I had one almost back into me because he couldnt see my little car over his giant truck bed.

Well i called my insurance company and asked them about totaling the car. The lady said that she would have the claims adjuster call me about it. I don't have collition on the car so i may have to deal with the other insureance carrier on this one. It was a company truck... i may just ask the guy if he will give me 2k for damages and i will drop the claim agaist him. I don't know if i can do that or not will have to check it out a bit further... but at midnight prob not the best time to do so. I will also have to wait til the police report comes out because the people that hit me didn't speak any english. and if the owner wants to just pay me off that will be fine and i can keep a clear title on the car. but **** PEOPLE WHO CAN'T DRIVE!!!!!!

sorry had to vent.

dont apologize... just shoot bad drivers.
My GF took the rx out the VERY first day we got it good to go, permit and everything, and got rearended by a newer cavelier.. roxy smashed the **** outta the cav, and then my GF got outta the car, screamed at him for two minutes and then when he said "i think we need to exchange insurance" she told him to go fuckhimself and peeled the tires and ran away...
i love ten day permits! (we escaped with no damage, and with no plate on the back, no one can make any claims... *******!)
soon you will realize that people who drive escalades cannot see you, even when they shoulder check (as if they ever)... keep that in mind when driving near one of them.

Sorry to hear about your new car getting banged Mark, but I'm sure you can get it back in good shape. My tan 84GSL was rear ended out on I85 a couple years ago, just after I had finished fixing everything up. I called and wrote a letter to the insurance company for the trucker who caused the accident and documented the overall excellent condition of the car with photos and a list of recent repairs. I told the agent it would cost about $3,800 to buy a similar car (even though the blue book was $2,220). I even argued that it was an antique, just about to turn twenty years old, and that it was a very desirable classic car. The insurance company cut me a check for the full $3,800 and also paid for a car rental, another $400. They tend to be generous when their client is at fault and they are covering a major customer like a trucking company, so I'd go on the offensive if I were you.

There are some photos of the tan car before the accident, after the accident and after I did the body work at this site:

Also I have a parts car that has a good rear bumper, brown, if this is any good for you.

Good luck with the repairs!

Ray

If the total value of the claim is within 85% they will total the car. If you total the car and you want it, they will put a salvage title on it and you will have to buy the car from the company which is usually scrap value ($90). The problem with a salvage title is that most insurance comopanies will not insure the car.

Power of the pen

The written word is a very powerful thing. I had the same thing happen to me, I wrote a letter pleading my case, and it worked to the tune of $2000.

Right on.

yea for sure just take the money and buy a used one, sooo much cheaper than new and you would have some cash for other things left over. Would that count as fraud though??

The insurance company that wrote me the check for $3,800 said it was for repairs. They let me keep the car and it was not considered "totaled" so the title did not become a salvage title. Like Brownmound says, the written word (and a few pictures) are a powerful thing. Especially when someone else runs into you.

Justification for driving a POS car. The insurance company tried to total mine out for $600. They wouldn't even pay for the radiator which got knocked loose. No doubt premiums went up for the other driver. At the time, I was a high powerred engineer so the cost/benefit was too high for me to bother with wearing down the insurance company with legal corresonence and delays upon delays until they just want me to go away.

Ok just an update. I talked to my insurance company and in the state of GA they are not allowed to 'total' my car fater 20 years. it is an 83 so that makes it 23 years old. they can't salavge my title. so ..|.. them. Now on to the news that i'm still waiting for is what the cop reports says about it all. cop sited him. i just need to get the rest of that information. Progressive has been ver helpful so far and they are trying to do all of the leg work for me.

Thanks for the advice on sending a letter to the insurance company... I'm just looking are replacing parts.. i think that i have very very small body dmg and i can get away with out having it fixed... but will have it put into my estiment... it is something that i could take a screw drill in and pull and it would pop out..

at any rate i need to get my police report to my insurance company.. will keep yall posted.
