like any motor, they will last a long time if you take care of them. i think the average is probably around 140k they need rebuilt but not uncommon to excede 200k. you will love this car in the mountains after driving that heavy z car and pos crx.

For 1st-gens, generally the engine outlasts the body. 200k at a minimum, 300k not unheard of.

Totally depends on maintenence and a few rotary specific quirks.

Always change oil on time.
Never beat on a cold rotary.
Never overheat.
Try to stay below 8500 RPMs.
Proper break-in.
A little blue smoke on startup is acceptable and almost considered normal. If it doesnt go away right away, engine is tired or at best, needs some attention.
200K or more is very common for a well maintained or enthusiast's owned car.
150K or less can be seen on abused/neglected/unloved 1st gens.Usually still runs, but will smoke, burn water or leak oil.

Most common "bad" thing on 1st gens is oil leakage around the top of the engine.Caused by hard, cracked oil O-rings in the main oil galley.More prevelant on the 83-85 12A cars because of the crappy water/oil cooler, but can be seen on air/oil cooled cars if the oil cooler isnt kept clean and clear.

The only non-racing motor I've blown up had 230k on it.
