combination switch

I wanna start by thanking everyone on here. I don't post alot, but through searching, I've been able to solve alot of issues. So I've got a headlight problem. No high beams. Every thing else (light wise)works great. Flip it forward, nothing. Wanna remove combo switch to inspect/clean. Unplugged all connectors, removed bolt that secures the "collar " still won't budge. What's the trick I'm missing? Thanks n advance. Btw, its n 84 GSL-SE

See this thread, with pics, for removing the combination switch. There is a small tab on the back-top that needs to be raised to slide the switch off the column.

Once you have the combination switch out, go to this thread. There a link in the 2nd post from the bottom. Step by step photos of how it works and how to take it apart.

The contacts for the headlights may have a pit on one side and a peak on the other. (Something like the old contact points in distributors.) I took some 400 grit sandpaper and gentle pulled it through the contacts when held together. Cleaned up everything with 90% isopropyl alcohol, or spray contact cleaner. I also cleaned the sliding contacts (turn single stalk) and then re-lubed with dielectric grease.

Black Dragon sells a solenoid retrofit for our cars that plugs into the stock light harness and runs a full 12v to the bulbs instead of through the combo switch and then to the bulbs. The circuit to the switch and then the bulbs is high resistance and thin wires, making for a poor light output.

Glad you got it fixed, and if you get more corrosion, consider the option.
