Color choices
As some of you know I recently got a 83 GS to use for the winter. Even though I got it from a junkyard it turns out that its in really good shape. Nice and solid, runs pretty well. Right now its all in primer, and was originally Sunrise Red. After the winter I plan on putting my IMSA air dam and spoiler on it and painting it. I was just gonna paint it Sunrise Red, but got thinking about it and i might wanna paint it some other color. I'm not sure what though, something non-stock, anyone have pics of FB's with non-mazda colors on em? I just wanna get some ideas. TIA

Remember that primer will not stop all water from penitrating. Just somthing to think about I don't know if they have new waterproof primer now, so I could be wrong though. But I like a nice red on first gens.

Here's the deal with Maaco. If you want to get your car painted and you don't have a lot of cash, they'll paint it for you - ambassador paint job, that runs around $250. This paint job is good for someone who has already done the preparation, priming and masking. However, they've also do very professional paint jobs, I think it's called the executive paint job, that runs around $2500. With this one, they'll strip the paint down to bare metal and prime, prep, mask and paint it. I've seen a Porsche with this paint job and it looked REALLY nice. Just remember - you get what you pay for.

The blue car up above is a MAACO job...I stripped the car of all emblems and bumper strips and all light assemblies...I also cleaned it thoroughly and had them paint the entire hood as well as along the under hood area to match work I had already done when the engine was out. A professional auto painter buddy said it wasn't bad work for $600, but there was some "orange skin" from laying on the clear coat too heavy. Bryan said color sanding the clearcoat would turn it into a mirror surface. He still runs his own shop, so I believe him. He also paints custom Harleys and you know what a demanding clientele they are....

MAACO stole my stereo out of my Audi Coupé, then tried to pretend I'd refused to pay and contacted the bailiff's office to seize my vehicle when I bitched to head office about them.
I had to hit 'em with both a lawyer and a Sherriff before they actually painted my car (less the cost of stereo) and even then it was a shitty job - left all the shop dust in the interior, didn't put the doors back together, etc.
but for $250 you're lucky a paint shop doesn't stand on your roof and pour the paint onto the car.
