Color

So my 1980 anniversary edition is well on its way to getting a new coat of paint! My question is: Do I use the stock paint color or change it up?

Has the color been changed already? If it just needs a respray and you're thinking about value over time, original color is the way to go.
But if it's already modified or had body work, go wild. Depends on your budget.

I'm not big on red, but lately I've been digging Mazda's 2019 Soul Red Crystal color. It's a little darker than last year's Soul Red.
From what I hear their current process for these reds is a 3 layer deal that chips easily and is difficult to touch up.
So if I had a bucket of money I'd do that then an expensive clear ceramic wrap.

It’s been mechanically modified. Se axle and brakes. Otherwise it is stock. I am going to add an Airdam and wing. Easily changed back. I am worried about future value so I am leaning towards original color. If it wasn’t an anniversary edition I would go crazy. Thanks for the reply!

No doubt in my mind on the original color. Its a beautiful color and once its been changed, I do feel as though the value will be diminished. The largest identifier on the 80 10AE is the paint color. No other 7 had that color ever.

I agree, the guys above make a good point that the stock color would probably pay you back with the best value if you ever decided to sell it as it would be more widely accepted as appropriate. Ultimately though, its a personal choice of what the owner wants. Just realize, others may think different and see a non-standard color (especially on a special model know for a specific color) as being worth less.

R3 Renaissance Red all the way. Your Future You will thank you. And the next owner too. Photo-doc the paint process. Gold for future resale...
and post a pic or 3 once she is out of the booth. Envy! wish I had the coin to dunk mine in a tub of RH
