Cold Air Intake On Rotary

I've heard about the k&n cold air intake, and seen a picture and it confuses me, because it is square. My air filter is round, so how does this work out? What are some other cold air intakes that would fit a 85 gls

If you want to run a true CAI, buy some flex hose, trim back the snorkel and run the hose through the side of the radiator shroud, in front of the radiator and AC condenser. Most CAIs are over hyped and over priced. DIY will give the same result. You can add the round cone filter in front of the radiator, then remove the stock one from the air cleaner box.

thats kind of what i did. made a box for the cone filter in the engine bay, right behind the right headlight, and ran flex hose for a dryer from my front lip into the box. worked pretty good

The square filter is for the fuel injected Se model.

There are no cold air kits for our cars whether it be fuel injected or carbureted. As others have stated you can either install a KN replacement filter and fabricate a cold air inlet or you can buy the racing beat aftermarket air cleaner assembly seen at this link-

**** it man go ***** to the wall and take the breather off j/k don't do that that's bad especially if you have to drive through dirt roads.

but the K&N round filter should work pretty good i suppose unless you want to run a hose through the side of the Rad. and put a cone filter but i think that looks kinda tacky and it really won't do that much good compared to having the round k/n filter.

So pretty much your saying just to get the k&n round filter and replace the filter that is in it? And leave the original container (don't know the tech name) (big circle that holds the filter).

yup pretty much, the reason i say that is because the K & N does a great job of letting in more air than a regular/generic filter and still keep the dirt out, the ultimate way to go would be to not have to use any breather/snorkel/big blue round thing on top of the carb and still keep dirt out but i sure as hell don't know how to do that.

alright now this is not mine, it's from another forum member (robs_seven) but it's the only "breather-hose-cone filter" design i like, i know it's kinda hard to tell but he designed/welded his own carb hat in the shape of a rotor and ran a hose out of it into a cone filter

I have not seen pics posted of the mod as I described it, use your imagination. An alternate to the flex pipe, PVC/ABS DWV would provide better flow with less internal turbulence. Another option is to modify one of the cheap kits sold on eBay that has enough piping and bends.

I always notice a difference?

My integra especially loves the cold air, engine sounds like a GSR motor.

That said, cold air intakes don't really retrieve air that's any cooler than where the stock intake gets air, so I don't bother with CAI's.

Oddly, the 13Bs starting with the GSL-SE do have a CAI of sorts. Pulls air in from above the radiator, directly from the grill opening. 12As pull air from the engine bay.

Here are some pictures of the DIY intake on my old 84GS. Description can be found at the bottom of this page. http://intertron.com/ron/84.html
The one I have on my current GSL is a little more refined (no duct tape). Yes, it does feel different on cold mornings.
