Coilover Spring Rates for Street Car???
Hi everyone,
I want to get your guys opinions on the type of spring rates I should go with for my street driven rx7. I plan to install the ReSpeed's race version front coilovers along with their rear adjustable perches, but I'm unsure of the spring rates I should go with. I know that I already posted this same question before, but that was for my other car which is strictly being set-up for track use.
I mainly want to use the coilovers for their adjustability to lower the car rather than setting up the car for race track handling. I plan to do about 90% of my driving on LA's jacked up freeways, so I prefer it not to be too stiff. I want the suspension to be just stiff enough so that the car wont bottom out over harsh bumps when lowered about 1.5" max. Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks.

Before ordering my coilovers, I talked to Billy at re-speed, and told him what kind of setup I wanted and what the car was used for. He helped me make a decision on spring rates, told me what would be best for my application.
Since my car is mostly used for street/daily driving, and the occasionnal auto-x, I bought 225 for the front and 150 for the back. My car is lowered about 1"1/4, using the street kit for the front and the adjustable perches for the rear.
I`ve been driving my car for about 2 weeks now, and love the coilovers. Ět`s stiff enough that the car doesn`t sway very much when taking a hard corner, but not too stiff on hard bumps in the road. If your interested in seeing pictures, you can check out my project thread.

The shocks you use will also be a factor in your decision. If you go with adjustables, like Illuminas, then you can go higher on the spring rate and run the shocks on a low setting. Very comfortable that way, even running 275/150 springs. An added benefit to this is, when you really do want high performance and don't care about the ride comfort, you can set the shocks higher.
Billy also advised me (practically held my hand) on my build, and in my opinion he nailed it right on the head. You can't find better customer support anywhere.

1. Do they come with the springs or do I have to buy those as well? I notice the rears do, but the front's don't.
2. Car will be mainly used for street, with some track time. Road Atlanta, VIR, and local auto-xing.
3. How do you set them up? I know the screwing part of the kit adjusts ride height, is that all?
4. I have your 1 inch spacers in the front, roll center spacer, something like that. I had to use them so I can run the IMSA brake coolers in the front. Will this heed the coilovers in any way? I have ST springs in the front to keep the stock height (1 inch up + 1 inch drop) and stock springs in the rear.

Hey bud.
Coil overs would be a great improvement. The sway bay would some next.
Springs are sold separately for the front, but included with the rear.
You should look at between 250# AND 300# fronts, depending on how stiff you can live with in the street. Rear will be half the front rate +25 pounds.

instead of going with stiffer springs, you should consider upgrading the swaybars (or at least the front bar). I think that once you do that, you won't feel the need for stiffer springs at all....
