help! my baby's hurt. carb issues?

i have a 85 with a 12a. has header/exhaust, rats nest removal, air pump removal and stripped carb/mech secondaries. anyway i was driving(fairly spirited) and kicked four barrels open. i went as it should for 3-5 seconds. then it lost power and didnt want to idle. it will still start but it shutters and doesnt like to rev. at first i thought maybe apex seal but there is no smoke out the exhaust or anything. it isnt running rick. fuel level in float bowl looks high(top of sight glass) but noty rich. was thinking something in carb and fuel isnt getting to engine somehow. any ideas?

Sounds like an apex seal. Perform a compression check and start saving your money. Sorry, I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it...

I tossed an apex seal in my old motor at 213,000 miles. No smoke or anything, just a big clunk while sitting at a stoplight, followed by no power and bad shaking. Best of luck...

Before you panic and start tearing into the engine, get the floats set right. There is a very small notch in the middle of the sight glass that shows where the fuel is supposed to be. Start there. Sounds like it's time for a Seafoam treatment.
