Coil 101, please!

Ok, most of you know by now I'm in the middle of the rex learning curve, so now I'm asking you to educate me on coils. Is there a big difference in performance getting rid of stock ones? The new ones you guys have shown on the forum look cool, but do they give you any bang for the buck? Share! Share! Remember, keep it simple enough for a East Tennessee boy!
Thanks!

I don't know what others will say, but I felt the difference when I changed my coils. Mind you though,, I think the car still had the stock ones (1980). I put in 2 msd blaster high vibration coils, I would have put in 2 msd blaster 2 coils, but there is question as to mounting them horizontally or vertically, so I just went with the high vibration coil for $10 extra since it specifically says it can be mounted in any way. The difference I noticed was in low rpm (0-3k) response. The car seemed to accelerate a little quicker and smoother at these low rpms. I felt no other difference then that. Maybe if you have somewhat newer coils then I had, you won't feel a difference.

If they work, then don't bother replacing them. I have put in the accel super sport (or something like that) and it didn't change anything.

The best way to make your car faster and save money is to replace what breaks with preformance parts... and believe me, things will break.

Would old coils have anything to do with hard starting? If mine sits for a couple of days, seems like I have to crank forever before it will fire up. Then runs & starts fine. Anything else I can do about that?

maybe the accelerater pump in you carbs is dry. Do you have a manual choke? I don't know what it is if it's fuel injection.

Got a choke, I pull it out whenever I start it. Just seems to not want to fire up when sitting for a while. Carb was rebuilt about 20K ago.

If your engine is pretty much stock internalls and no porting than you probobly wont see much of any improvement in your cars performance.
I put an Accell super coil on my trailing plugs and Jacobs coils on my leading. the only thing I noticed was it ran a little smoother above 5grand
Now if your building a ported motor or anything really serious than you will probobly notice a huge difference with a little more firepower.
