sounds like your syncro's may be going out. you should be able to pick up a good used tranny for under $100. thats what i'd do instead of tearing into the tranny.

Flushing the tranny and adding a synthetic fluid seems to help sometimes, depending on how bad the syncros are.

As for the clutch unless you are doing a lot of drag racing and burnouts, the stock clutch is fine. If you have the usual mods without getting into the engine, upgrade the pp to a heavier one.

Depends how much you want to spend on a clutch. I like ACT personally.

I have been running stock clutches on a couple of street ported 13b's and have never had a problem unless the thing was getting worn out of if I accidently hit 5th instesd of 3rd etc.

im 17 and i do a lot of burnouts and like cruising the strip and well i have no mods yet i am going to do a couple of things like get a new rear end cause it makes noise and get some recaro seats and i would like to do some engine mods but i dont know what to do to a rotary i want some basic and fairly cheap things that i can do or have done to get more power because i feel a power loss somewhere... i been reading and i guess the 12a does get around with great ease and agility and i dont think mine does... anyway ive got around 200-300 to spend on an upgraded clutch and im pretty set on getting something that is agressive because i feel a lag when shifting into 2nd and 3rd and so on just looking for the best bang for my buck and thanx for the advice

OR learn how to drive properly/HPDE prior to adding the make-you-think-you're-fast stuff.

i believe his question was "whats a good aftermarket clutch" so why flame for "learning to properly drive?"

im curious about upgrading clutches to because i may be buying a gsl-se (itll be my third rex) and it needs a new clutch. its got a dual weber setup, intake manifold thats ported and polished, RB header and presilencer, straight pipe to a muffler. lil bit of other stuff. the guy told me the clutch slips bad when you get on it and i really dont want to dela with clutch slipping.

The stock 1st gen cluthes from, iirc, 83 on are the same ones in the S4's. Unless one is putting more hp and torque than a stock 2nd gen with the usual exhaust upgrades, the stock clutch is fine. If any thing, a stronger pp with more clamping force will do the trick.

I killed the clutch in my 2nd gen at the 1/8th mile drag strip, it was replaced with a stock clutch, and no more trips to the strip. That's what the 1st gen is for. Hard launches, with too much slipping off the line can kill most any clutch quickly, so can slipping the clutch holding the car on a hill, and poor standing starts.

I have a stage III ceramic clutch in the widebody, it's ok, feels like a stock one with slightly more pedal pressure. What I don't like about the clutch is the 500 mile break-in period, but with a fresh rebuild, it wasn't a problem.
