Question Clutch Problems.

I have a 1984 12a RX7. Completely stock. I replaced the clutch disc about two years ago, but haven't driven the car much up until three months ago, when it became my daily driver.

My problem is this. A few days ago, I pushed in the clutch to put it into 1st gear from neutral. I tried to put it into 1st, but it didn't go. So I pushed the clutch in again, but realized that it was stuck all the way to the floor. Sitting at a stop sign, I kicked at it lightly a few times. After about three light kicks, it popped back. All was well for now. Then, two days ago, it happened when I was pulling out of a restaurant. The clutch pedal dropped to the floor and since then, has not returned, despite being able to pull it back with my hand(If I pull it back, it has no pressure, and immediately drops to the floor and is stuck.

Since then, I've been powershifting only to get to work and back, since I know that is bad for the already shabby transmission.

Now, my car does not have a clutch cable, it has a hydraulic pedal sort of thing, like brakes do. Any ideas? I need answers quick!

Replace the clutch master, clutch slave and order a stainless steel hose to replace the rubber one. You'll be good for another 15-20 years.

Sweet. I looked on Drivewire.com, which is where I grab most of the generic goodies for my Rex. It's listed under two items, one significantly more expensive than the other. One is a Clutch Master Cylinder, the other is a clutch master and slave cylinder assembly. Which one do I need?

the clutch master and slave are two seperate parts. both are needed when working on the clutch hydraulic system. sounds like they packaged them together. order those and dont forget to order a new slave cylinder hose and crush washer.

Yes, i've found out that after 20 years the slave cylinder either starts leaking or just goes to mush...... I just replaced mine on my gsl-se swap so i should be good for a while with fresh dot 4 brake fluid.

I've been lucky to get 2 years out of a slave cylinder on my car. Always replace with new unit, all new fluid, no leaks from hose or washer. My car is just cursed I guess.
