clutch pedal??

just today my car has been acting kinda weird
its an 85 gs rx7 manual transmission
today when i was coming to stop i put it in neutral to stop so i could take my foot off the clutch and wait for the light to change, then i notcied my clutch pedal was stuck to the floor and i had to hook my foot under it and pull it up to change gears....then i managed to change gears and again the clutch pedal stuck to the floor and it wouldnt come up
what could be the possible problem? maybe the master cylinder?

Weird, but it just sounds like there isn't pressure holding in the system somewhere. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder of course. Possibly a leak in the system somewhere. Check the rubber hose connections.

It's odd that you could still use the clutch if there wasn't pressure, so I may be wrong. Hopefully it's something easy.

Good luck.

Check where the clutch pedal attaches to the car and see if there is a spring attaching the pedal to a bracket. Next, you may have to check the clutch master cylinder and the release cylinder. Haynes manual shows how. It doesn't look too difficult, and you may just need to replace a seal inside one of the cylinders.

Same thing happened to me. Mine was the slave cylinder. I think yours if most likely eithee the slave or master cylinder, or the flexible hose that leads to the slave cylinder. Bleed the system really well using good brake fluid too.

ok i went out and bled the slave cylinder and the master cylinder, and there seems to be as if there is a bit of air in the line, so im going to buy an new master cylinder and hopefulyl that will fix the pressure leak if thats even the problem

WEll my thought is either something under the dash it keeping it down or there is a nic inside the master cylinder causing it to stay down or the return spring is broke inside of it or binding or something. If its a master cylinder get a new one or find a junkyard one. DO NOT Buy a rebuild kit!!! They suck and will leak a few weeks later...

the fluid was quite dirty i would say. and pretty old, but we bled the lines and put in new fluid and it didnt fix the problem, yes tommorow i shall buy a new clutch master cylinder and hopefully that shall fix the problem, otherwise i dont know cause i dont think it has anything to do with a spring.

good call,,i rebuilt my clutch master a couple of weeks
ago,,i would say buy a new master,,if you can,,,
one sign of a system failure from the master is when
the fluid turns dark and dirty..before installing the new master make sure to bench test (prime) it first

Mmm.... I'm having problems with my clutch lately--Today, while I was coming home, I lost almost all pressure in my clutch, pumping my way home. The clutch pedal not only stuck to the floor, but I felt absolutely zero resistance in the clutch travel. So... I tried to find the problem--if it was a broken master or slave cylinder, but I can't find the elusive blue book (Haynes manual). I have an 85 GS... I know where the master cylinder is, but I'm not so sure where the slave cylinder is--is it where the bleed screw is?

Anyway... Any help is appreciated =)

Thanx

The bleed screw next to your transmision is part of the slave cylinder. It is only about three inches long, sits right on top of the transmission, follow the pressure hose back from the master cylinder. I had the same problem a couple months ago, it was the slave cylinder for me and it takes about twenty mintes to replace.

Haha, when my dad got in the car to try the clutch, about half the pressure came back--MAGICALLY--compared to zero pressure I was facing... And I drive the car EVERY day and love it--it should like me more! =(

Is there a sure way to identify that the slave cylinder is dead? (or the master?). I think I know how to tell, but i just wanna make sure =)

Thanx

I know this for fact ,,,when the fluid turns dark or dirty
that is the master starting to fail..the colour(dark)(dirty)
is caused when the master gets contaminated by metal
partacules from the walls of the master ...the slave
doesn't make direct contact with the fluid, like the master does...so look into the master.
