CO Clutch Master Cylinder Removal Trick?

Hi,

This should not be hard! Is there some special trick that I don't know about for getting the nut off the left bolt of the clutch master cylinder? I have tried to get at it with a shallow socket, deep socket, deep socket cut off, swivel head ratcheting wrench, rigid wrench.

I increased the play on the clutch pedal but that didn't give me enough room. I gently tried to loosen the piston where it screws into the clutch pedal linkage but it wasn't moving and I didn't want to force it. Any help will be appreciated!

deep 1/4 drive socket with swivel and LONG extension worked for me. Maybe i used a shallow socket... Cant remember exactly but thats mainly what i have used before.

Remove the clip from the pin where the u shaped bracket attaches to the pedal. No need to back that nut off at all. The plunger should come right out so you can get access. One thing to remember. Do not over tighten those nut when putting in the new one. I did and cracked the pot metal around the MC stud.

1/4" drive ratchet here too... either long extensions, or a medium deep socket

yes it's a pita. remove the push rod and get it out the way. makes it much easier.

I removed the pushrod.
Cut down my deep socket a little more.
Used a long extension.

It's out.

I appreciate everyone's input!

That clutch master cyl is a bitch! I've had to remove three or four of them on various FBs... Removing the pin is the easiest way for sure, though I didn't figure that out until the last one. When reinstalling the holding pin and c-clip, face the pin inwards and put the c-clip on the inward side to make it easier next time you have to do it. (Don't say there wont' be a next time, you never know!)

Other helpful tips are to remvoe the driver's seat so that you can lay comfortably on your back with your feet up in the hatch area while you're swearing at the damn thing and trying to convince it to come out. Taking the driver's seat out is deceptively easy and saves a lot of contortion when fighting with it.
