Clunky Tranny, an illusion?

I've had my car, 1985 GS, for roughly a month now. Considering I've never driven any other RX's I can't say if I'm just imagining it. But when trying to down shift through third to second and then second to first, it feels as though the tranny is boxing me out. And I have to move gently first to second or it does the same, requiring me to take the shift slowly. Third, fourth, and five are smooth and uneventful, notchy but not bad. Is this common?

I thought syncro's. But this car only has 23,000 originals on it. And I wouldn't assume it to have gone so bad, so soon. Your thoughts?

I just posted about this but yeah what they said. Redline MT-90 in the tranny and Redline 75w90 in the rear end. Get 2 quarts of each. Fill it once and you'll never hafta fill it again.
