Exclamation Clunk from FR wheel Need help please!

Car specs: Stock 85 GSL-SE

Im 80% sure it might be the caliper but not sure I hear a loud clunk sound followed by bump feel on the floor when I drive. Then when I press the brake pedal the noise/bump goes away. This is coming from the front right wheel. Any Ideas fellow rotary fam??

I ran a search and all I found was threads on clunk noises from the diff and rear suspention. Sorry if this is question, I just bought the GSL-SE as a daily not even a week ago, Once again, Thanks!!!

remove the front wheels and check the mounting bolt for the calipers and make sure they're tight. should have a 17mm head and its the lower bolt. you will also want to make sure the caliper bracket bolts are tight. there are two 14mm bolts that hold them on. may also want to make sure the clips that hold the brake pads are firmly in place. while you're in there, check the lower balljoints for wear and for breaks in the boot. you might also want to check the strut mounts and coil springs. make sure the mounts are tight up against the body. four 14mm nuts secure them to the body and are easialy seen when you open the hood. check and make sure the coil springs are in tack and that they haven't broken. short of that, check the tension tod bushings and the sway bar end link bushings. eliminate all variables.

Very nicely covered mazdaverx713b. Only thing I could add is check the lug bolts, wheel bearings and idler arm.

It's nice when the first/simplest solution is the one that works, kudos. Fwiw, I don't drink, coffee will do but I think you owe mazdaverx713b his vice of choice. Personally, I would use Permatex Blue threadlock to prevent any bolt loosening in the future.

no one owes me anything. just glad i was able to help. i originally thought that the idler arm may be suspect, but he mentioned "Then when I press the brake pedal the noise/bump goes away." so i thought braking system component.. then i went on the rant of suspension parts and completely forgot to mention the idler arm. thanks for picking up where i faild to mention guys!

If this ever gets stickied, you can add removal of the spindle nut, slide off the hub, and check the four 14mm bolts for the backing plate. I had a loose one that drove me NUTS until I found it.
