Clear(ish) Tail lights

I know they have been done before and sold and whatnot, but does anyone know how they got it clear, or what was done? I have been tossing around an idea for a few weeks now that I am going to try.... Plus try to get a hold of some cheap tail light to try it on.

Do you have any pictures? When you removed the len's, I take it that it was trhe red/yellow part you removed and you got red/yellow bulbs for replacement?

(Can you tell I have never taken a tail light apart from an rx? )

Thanks Xlr8. I wonder if there is anyway to get rid of the reflector, or maybe I am going to have to find a way to get formed plastic...

Well, you're going to need to keep the reflector in order for the flash of your bulbs to be emitted outward for others to see them like normal brake lights.

The reflector on the outside plastic, for DOT purposes. I was going to move that but now I have another Idea. I swear, I get about 3-4 ideas throughout the day for the 7... I should start writing them down.

Oh, you meant that little red square in the lens? Yeah, that is annoying to look at with modified/clear lenses.

If you wanna shade them use VHT paint and do it on the inside part. That way the reflector still works as it should

Or use CandyPaint. I did that on the Protege's rear lights on the back. Pitch black, but when the lights turned on or when I braked/turned/reversed, it shown through like stock. No LED lights neither.

I do the S5 style lights but they have the colored lense. I've thought about doing some sets with the clear diffused lense that some guys have done and tinkering around without the lense and what not. And yeah I really want to get rid of the reflector as well

Could you pop the little reflective square out and replace it with a more transperant peice of decoration... like a little plastic square with an opaque mazda symbol or rotor?
