Cleaning the engine area

I need to cleen my engine bay. I had a fire on the manifold and was put out(as some of you have read before. I need to get the yellow sulfer powder out of the bay. Can I just cover up my dizzy and hose it down or what do I need to do. I got to get it out before it cakes up more.

Buy some Mineral Spirits (paint thinner), pour it all over your engine bay, then hose it off. I do it from time to time, no problems.

Simple green rocks, on everything except aluminum.

I use simple green on the walls of my engine bay, and wipe it down with shop towels.

As for mineral spirits, well that's what was recommended when cleaning my OMP so I assume it's okay on aluminum.

As for pressure washing your engine bay, you should cover your dist cap and ignitors, as well as your ignition coils. Remove the wires.

I had a blocking plate made so that I can remove my carb and block off the top of my intake manifold for spraying the engine bay.

As long as your electricals are safe, you should be good. I'd take the battery out while I do it and remove or wrap the alt too. I know getting water into the Alt would be a really really bad thing.

Simple green or citrus based liquid dishwashing soap is pretty effective. The citrus based stuff is also pretty enviro-friendly. Last Saturday I cleaned my engine bay using the citrus soap and hot water. Squirted it on the messy areas, ragged it on where I could and hosed it off (no pressure washer). Worked like a charm.

I don't do the purple power or hard-core cleaners anylonger.. That stuff is obnoxious (and I live over top of two streams and I have a well)
