Choke help

Alright, so my car doesn't idle up when I set the choke. I don't know what's wrong. I thought I found the problem the last time I posted about this but noooo, it still don't work. It actually idles lower with the choke on. Does anyone have a picture to work off so I can try to understand what the f*#@ is wrong. The choke rod goes to bracket at the fromt but it slides freeley and doesn't seem to do anything to the piece it is attached to. Sorry I don't know how to explian it. I really need some serious hael here guys. I have to sitt in the cold 10 degrres or so till it warms up now, about 5-10 minutes. It's getting old/cold fast!

The choke and the fast idle are separate. Check to see that the fast idle rod is still... there... and connected. Try working it with your hand and see if that ups the idle. If this works, try bending it a little until it gets activated when the choke **** is pulled.

Of course watch out for the various belts and fans in the engine compartment while you're doing this.

I'd have trouble describing it for you if you don't know what to look for.

You really need to get a manual. Try locating the pdf version of the '85 factory manual. It's on wankel.net somewhere. I'm sorry that I don't have the link currently.

There she is. Fuel and Emissions for the 12a is the one you want.

Btw, right clicking and using "save as" works much better because the files are large!

brian -

Does your choke plate actually close? Did you take off the bimetal spring housing? I know you posted on this before but I can't remember the details....

I think I am getting close slashdawg00110, I hooked the chock diaphragm vacuum line up to a nipple on the passenger side and now it works better still doesn't idle up to much though. I think that was the main problem I'm one of those "who needs directions" guys and probably should have followed Carl's tutorial more closely but I didn't have the printable version so I kinda went off memory when I got rid of the rats! LOL maybe that's why he's not posting on this thread! Thanks, and what's the bimetal spring housing?

If I get home with some light still left tomorrow, I'll take a picture of mine and label it for you. I no longer have the rats nest, hot start assist, cold start assist or cruise control. So there are only two cables now attached to the carb, choke and gas

In the Haynes manual it shows you have to have the carb off to adjust some plate clearances for the fast idle (cold idle). Not sure what the rod is bouis is talking about. Only other adjustables down that way are the mixture screw and the air screw. The air screw is for adjusting the normal idle after warm-up.

Yeah, that's the problem with nearly 2 year old posts I rotate my pictures in and out of rotation on my regular site (http://www.milisake.com) which is currently clean except for a rally FB video I shot at the 2003 Trespassers Wil ClubRally down in Salem, MI (http://www.milisake.com/brapbrap.wmv if I recall correctly) If you need the pictures of my engine bay, PM me your email address and I'll email them over.
