Looks like a great car. But, I am more afraid of to few miles than to many. Cars are meant to be driven, not sitting in someone garage. What does he think he is going to get for the care?

Yeah, for what he's holding out for ($4000 firm) you should be able to eat off of the engine bay. No floor mats either. Car is a very nice example, but not flawless. You can pick up an absolutely flawless GSL-SE in the states for what this guy wants for his base model 12A. Keep looking because this one is worth $2000 tops. This guy's emotional attachment to the car gives him an elevated sense of what it's worth.

I bought an 85GSL primo last summer for $1700 with 49k. But I think it was neglected: I've replaced the clutch and I'm going to have to tune it. Maybe some crap in the gas line.

I'm "the guy"
Hi all:
Just realized the car I'm selling is the object of this post.
First, it isn't my car and I don't have an emotional attachment to it. But aviator, thanks for the diagnosis
The car is not for everyone and not priced for everyone.
(It also isn't $4,000 firm. That's a buy it now price if someone wants to immediately end the auction. The reserve is considerably lower)
The car has not been neglected and has never sat for more than 4 weeks without being driven. (4 weeks was only during a few rough winters)
Mechanically it is in great shape. I just drove it last night and there is not a rattle or squeak anywhere in this car.
Mike, the engine bay is in the front of the car where it is supposed to be. No I didn't steam clean it. That's what it looks like after 18 years. Point is, no rust.

Was this car on eBay a couple months ago? I'm almost sure its the same car from an old thread.
Why does everyone fear the low miles? I've observed comments like that being spoken once, maybe (or maybe not) by a knowledgable member in a specific case. Then it gets recycled into oblivion by others. It looses context and credibility. No offense dole2000; I don't mean to single you out, I just haven't heard a good explanation for why low miles is unconditionally a cause of concern and indicates "major work needed".

This car has never been for sale. My father in law moved to a retirement home last weekend and no longer has a garage. At 78, he wasn't driving the car very often anyway. (But he did look cool in it
Suparslinc: I agree. It's one thing if a car wasn't driven for years and just sat there. That is NOT the case with this RX7.
But having low miles on a seldom driven car is nothing to fear. I bought a 95 3000GT Spyder VR4 two years ago with ony 15k on it and haven't had any problems at all.

ok i seen it . Looks great, but I am curious as to why the engine bay looks so, neglected if you will, shock towers really dirty rad cover and fan gaurd look rough also, my 90 GXL has over 166,000 im third owner and my engine bay looks like yours should, my shock towers and engine bay paint are original and still shine like new and my covers dont look half as bad as that, but, hey, the rest of the car looks great, if your willing to work out payments i may buy it, kinda broke right now, I just spent over 4 grand in parts to start my project on a 79 I just picked up.

I have an 85 GS with 38K all original and it is in mint condition. That car is worth 3,000 all day!
Don't under value the car - it is going to hurt all of us!

Just thought I should wrap up this post. (Should have done it a long time ago)
The car sold for $4050 and there was another person on the phone begging me to sell it to them for that price if the first buyer fell through. They buyer came out, inspected the car and happily paid.
I actually got a call from the buyer a couple of weeks later asking me to thank my father in law for taking such great care of the car. They did not appear concerned about the engine bay being too dirty
Moral of the story: Almost every time I see a post about a car for sale there are some naysayers who can't wait to post all the negatives about a car and why it is overpriced, or how they heard about someone who got a better car for less money.
If you are selling a car, this can be alarming. My advice is to answer their concerns politely. Not because they are your potential buyers, but because your potential buyer may be lurking and just watching the posts. (As they were in this case - the buyer did not make any posts)
But don't get discouraged because of their "advice" or negative attitudes. Clearly this RX7 was worth $4,000+ to at least a couple of buyers. You really don't care how many people think your car isn't worth your price - you only need one who thinks it is.
Do a good job describing your car, be accurate and be honest. That's the way to get the most for your car.
Respectfully,
Jeff

I recently bought an 85 gs with 35k original miles and it was perfect. The motor runs better than any seven I have owned and I have had about six so low miles shouldn't be a concern. I couldn't be happier with mine.
