Cheap and easy fix for start-up smoke?

OK, some of you know me as the snake oil salesman that promotes oil additives as a cure for rotary engine oil leaks:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ight=stop+leak

Now, an even more remarkable discovery: ENGINE OIL STOP LEAK ALSO STOPS MORNING START UP SMOKE! My 84 GSL was puffing great plumes of oily blue smoke on start up when I first go it going again a few months ago and it continued to do this for several weeks. It was also leaking engine oil pretty bad, with the little cup behind the 12A logo filling up about every 100 miles.

So I did the GoldenEagle/STP/Bardahl treatment to stop the oil leak and it did (see the post above). But then the other day I realized that the great plumes of start up smoke are gone (it took me a few weeks to realize this, I'm not at my best at 5:00 a.m.). So I investigated further, and sure enough, the damn thing doesn't smoke at start up anymore.

Hmmm, any rotor heads go an explanation for this one?

PS, I've got GoldenEagle/STP/Bardahl available, only $10.00 plus shipping and handling.

Ray

Smoke at startup is due to bad oil control rings, which are just rubber and will respond equally well (or not) as any other rubber gasket that might be causing an external leak.

smoke on startup can be due to a blown water jacket. this happened to me. as soon as the motor heated up the smoking stopped, i rebuilt it about found that water jacket busted up in a few places.

Yep, this was oil smoke, and it's gone. How sweet it is, as Jacky Gleason used to say.
