Charcoal cannister question.
Charcoal cannister question.
I was checking under the hood today when I found an unclamped hose (see attachments). This is a 79 body with an 82 12a engine in it. It doesn't appear to have a charcoal canister.
So, when I clamped down the hose and drove around the block I looked under the hood again and turned off the engine; I soon heard a gurgling sound from the carb and sometimes a little gas (not the entire float bowl) goes into the secondaries (maby 1 or 2 ml).
NOT COOL!
The thing is, with the hose unclamped there is no problem, no gurgling sound no flooding. I couldnt find anything searching.
I'm leaving it unclamed now, I don't like the sound of gurgling gas in the carb.
Do I need a charcoal canister, I don't smell gas when driving, and any expanation for this would be appreciated.

The 79 had the charcoal canister integrated into the air cleaner lid. You will need one from an FB, along with the bracket to mount it on the passenger side strut tower.
Thanks for the confimation. I was lucky enough to get one from the wreakers today, they only had one 7 there. It just stinks that it gets dark so soon up here, so I'll fit it in later.
Update:
I got the FB charcoal canister installed today.

The last pic shows the hard line that goes to the tank connected with a short rubber tube to the smaller diameter hard line that comes off the charcoal canister.
I'm pretty sure that's right. Can I get get a yay or a nay?
