why are you ditching it? you will probably smell gas fumes and it will be intrusive. the thing weighs less than 3 pounds and it will do nothing for you to remove it. i advise against this.

I am trying to clean up my engine compartment and it is bulky and i am pretty sure i dont need it or the 10 ft of lines that come with it. should i just bypass it or capoff the metal fuel line and also the port where it enters the block?

leave it in place. i suggest this. you will smell like gas. the charcoal canister traps fuel vapors and snuffs them. you might regret pulling it

go ahead and pull it. if you don't like the way your car smells inside, put it back.

ditch it, and move your vent line hose so that the fumes won't enter the cabin.

I would highly suggest that you do a search function on 'charcoal canister' in this section. There is a lot of good information on what it does, why it's there, and why it should be left alone.

It is more a function of the gas tank /purge system than anything else. It is important and rarely fails (unless your purge system is faulty elsewhere).

Well if you are going to pull it, then make your gas cap vented. A pressurized fuel tank system uses the charcoal to absorb the gasoline fumes. Fumes are created in the tank and under pressure they have to vent somewhere. In the old days you did not pressurize the tank, and they used vented gas caps.

Drill a small 1/8" hole in the gas cap.

NOTE: I do not defeat or recommend the removal of any emission device on my or any person vehicle that is operated on public highways.

J.

I removed mine, and regret it. My car is garage kept, and even when just sitting there, the whole garage will smell of gas.

I am actually going to fit another one back on the car, except I will mount in the rear by the fuel tank. - Like 3rd gens.
