Question Changing fuel filter on 84 gsl

I've got the new fuel filter. And was talking with a buddy at work who has an 87. His telling me I have to disconnect something inside the drivers compartment. To stop the flow of fuel. Does anyone have an idea what his talking about.

Thanks for the advice.

No need for that, just get under the car, disconect the hoses to it, and swap. Atleast that is how it is on my '80. I have no idea what he is talking about. Good luck.

Nope, no idea, and I don't think he had any either.

Do like 1stgen says. Some gas will inevitably trickle. Just don't smoke while doing it.

Haha, last time I changed mine, some of the fuel dumped onto my face and into my eye. God that stung!

pinch off both lines with some small visegrips switch filters, ready to go, but I still wouldn't smoke under the car while doing it.

the guy was probably referring to the fuel pump fuse, lol.....I would hope you wouldn't be running your car while changing the filter

You can pull the fuel pump fuse while the car is running (idle only). When it runs out of fuel, change the filter. Less fuel spillage. The 2nd gen filter is about 3 times bigger than the 1st gen.
