Center Magnaflow Muffler

Hey guys, me again with another fun exhaust question. My main cat is very, very clogged and I'm getting quite irriated. I've had my headers for about a week now but I'm saving up for some nice mufflers, since I'm going to be using two to help tone down the noise.

Now I already know which magnaflow I'm using on the end, but first of all I need to find one to stick in the center under the car. I'm looking at 3 models at the moment, they are all 2.5 in and 2.5 out which is what I'm looking for. Pretty much the difference is the length, which I assume the longer the more it muffles, but the price also corresponds.

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=451

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=447

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=845

I listed them from most expensive to the cheapest. Now my main question is, if I plan on using two mufflers should I just buy the cheapest/shortest one? I will probably buy the center one now and get the end in the next month or two. Any advice or opinions you guys can give? Would the offset muffler be better than the center in/out?

Also, can anyone recommend a reliable and cheap online retailer to buy magnaflow from?

Definately get the longest one. I've got two short Magnaflows on there right now and it's way too loud. I had to temporarily put a reverse flow silencer on there to quiet it down enough so that I won't get pulled over.

I run the 12216 in the cat location, and the 11226 at the rear of the car. This is on a turbo 13b application, and it is quiet, with a nice deep tone. If this is an n/a application, keep the oval shape, but get the longest one you can fit in there. That will certainly help keep the noise down. You may want to search a bit as well, and see if others have used a similar n/a setup.

I bought from ebay seller zapperformanceexhaust, and was very happy. Communication was great, and the prices were nearly half of the list price quoted on the Magnaflow site. Here's a link to one of his latest auctions (item # 8060786115):

I really like my current setup and I don't consider it too loud. It does gets attention from everyone (including the cops) but is still under the legal limit.

I'm running 4" dump which is heat wrapped to hi-flow cat then 3" into a Magnaflow. It was slightly too loud but got the exhaust shop to weld a spiral into the muffler and this has brought it down.

I really see no reason to have 2 mufflers if the system is set up right except if you really don't want to attract attention (which I find is hard in these cars anyway )

I bought this one for my mid-mufler. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT They also have a best offer option and paid 59 for it. Ran 3" exhaust all the way and it is much louder than before.

These guys sell a lot of Magnaflows, check and see what they have in 2-1.2". If you can get the oval to fit, it will be much quieter, if not, go for the 6" outer diameter round one.

Larger diameter pipe makes it louder. Mine is conciderably louder now, more than I was hoping for.

I have the 6" round in the back and it is too loud (under acceleration). Cruising it has a nice tone. I am also looking for a center Magnaflow. I am considering a 4X9X14 to bring the noise down.

Fozenwings.......what did you end up with and how does it sound?

Hey,

You should be able to fit an offset one nicely right under the passenger seat. There's a little space of where the heat shield is, you should be able to fit in ther a 4x9 oval muffler with 2.5 center in and 2.5 offset out, using that muffler will be even with the back on so you won't have to worry about grinding it on bumps. i would assume that the offset one will provide a little more noise reduction over the straight through, but shouldn't really hurt much hp since you're using fairly large piping like I am. I can't remember the exact lenght that would fit perfectly right in that space but it was either a 18" or a 14". So one of these :

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=424

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...ne=main&id=428

That is what i plan on doing my car as i have one magnaflow on there right now only which is a 3"inlet with 2 - 2.5" outlets. The reason that i went with 3" inlet is because i plan on doing a turbo sometime so I would save myself some money from buying another one down the road. Also i would recomment using stainless steel piping as i've heard that magnaflow doesn't accept bad muffler from you if you use steel piping wether thats true or not i'm not sure but it cost me only 70$US for a 10' stainless pipe with a 2.5" diameter so it was around the same price as doing it steel.
