TX Center Console Setup Help

Just wondering how everyone who has gauges has theirs mounted. my surround has been pretty battered so I actually put up a piece of corogated plastic my buddy gave me to hold my air/fuel gauge and e-fan switch until I could come up with an alternative. I'd like to put in an aluminum or steel plate cut for 3 gauges as well as 2 switches.

A friend of mine took his fan and a/c controls out and used those ports for gauges but i'd like to keep those since I still have atleast a heater. So did ya'll get stereo install kits to hold your stuff in place? or how did you make yours if your willing to share, any help is much appreicated.

any kind of material like aluminum, sheet metal, wood, etc will work. as long as it's no thicker than about 1/8 inch= .125 or 3.175mm for those on the metric system.

Yea I was thinkin of just goin for some flat black aluminum or somethin for a simple look but I was wonderin how everyone mounted there stuff. did they drill and mount it to the surround itself? or did they have it done some other way.

I did mine this way:

Cut down a textured plastic "project box" to fit, mounted the guages in it, and screw-mounted it to the extrusions inside the console surround. Reinforced the surrond with epoxy in the weak places.

Here's who I'm doing mine. I found an old torn up surround and remove the three circles section and turned it upside down. I then took a single din radio insert to ensure that the open section on the bottom would hold a single din radio. I then used JB weld and put everything together and sanded down. I had to enlarge the three circle opening in the middle to hold my iEquus gages. iEquus gages are on the low side (about $50 for volt-water temp-oil pressure. Once it's finished saned and painted it should like nice.

When I added the console gauges to the widebody, I cut a piece of tin to fit, then stiffened it with a couple layers of fiberglass and body putty to smooth it out.

If I do say so myself that is just down right awesome if you dont mind I might have to try and make something like that myself and then with that little space underneath a panel could be put in for switches or somethin.

And how have those gauges worked out for you? I was lookin at em at O'Riellys for about 20 minutes today contemplating getting a new oil pressure and water temp one.

I haven't put everything together yet. If you get them, get the kit with all three gauges. Don't know how well the gauges work but there are others on the forum that have them. If your looking for good looking gauges at a good price, iEquus is a good choice. There are others to, I just like these. Theylook a lot like Autometer but without the high price. If I had the money, I would have bought Autometer.
