carrier bearings
Hi. I have a 84 rx with a rumbling noise from the rear end. Mechanic says sound like carrrier bearings. Only can hear it when car is moving. How much is it to change them? Time wise.

"Carrier bearings" sounds like where you have a 2-piece driveshaft, and there is a carrier to hold the middle up - RX-7's don't have those.
Or does he mean differential carrier? Could be... it's possible to be an axle bearing, but lemme tell ya, if it's a differential bearing, get it fixed before the gear teeth get out of alignment, bind up, and go BANG. :-(
Time-wise... Got the right tools? Need a slide hammer to pull the axles out, after which the centersection (which houses the differential) is only a few bolts. THEN you have to tear it apart. To do any kind of bearings in the rearend will require a hydraulic press to get the new bearings on, and you have to know what you're doing to set-up the differential gears .
