Question Carburettor tuning?

I have recently purchased my first FB and would like to know how I would go about on safely getting the most hp out of tuning the stock carb. First off, how is it done? What are your setups? What are other ways to get easy hp without removing cats or slapping a turbo on? BTW how much hp do FBs have stock?

Thanks

These are some good threads to learn about the more persistant issues associated with the stock Nikki carbs. As far as tuning in specific goes, try a search, I'm pretty sure it has been discussed at length.

Hope this helps,
Brian

About 125 with a free flowing exhaust w/stock carb.
No more than 155 with modded carb.

Really?!!! +25 horsepower? FBs respond this well with exhaust? Anymore ways to get easy horsepower? Describe a free flowing exhaust. I want to remove the cat but due to legal problems I don't want to. Can a free flowing exhaust be built without removing the cat? give me some tips. This is unrelated to the topic, but my carburettor makes a loud whistling noise under idle, a very annoying one.
