Carburetor storage?
I just got my Carb rebuild kit. As per Sterling's advice, I got a kit made by "Standard" rebadged by CarQuest.
Thing is, I have three carbs laying about.
What I'd like to do is rebuild one, throw it on and tune it. Then I'll order another kit and rebuild another one, swap them out so that I can tune the newly rebuilt one and keep the already tuned one as a spare.
Will gaskets keep over time? How should a carb be stored?
Is this even a logical course of action?

As long as theres no fuel in it you'll be fine. If its used then consider a fuel preserveative to keep the gas from gumming up and cloging the carb. Also draining the gas would be a good idea. The gaskets will be fine.
That interesting J-spec 13B of mine had a carb that had been stored since the '70s with oil inside. It was a greenish oil about the thickness of 10w30. Heh, maybe it was 10w30 that turned green. Anyway, the inside was pristine. Only the accelerator pump was a little sluggish at first; it's the plunger style and the leather dried to the bore. A little massaging worked it loose and now it's fine.

I was planning on using my shop vac and some thick plastic ziplock bags or some multiple layered trash bags to vacuum seal it in. Then I'd either impulse seal it or use loads of tape.
