Carburator Favor...Please...

Would anyone be interested in rebuilding the carburtator off my 84? I never have had any luck with rebuilding a carb... The car will not start without starting fluid... Once its running- It seems to idle fine and work properly... Just has a hard time starting... I would be willing to compenstate someone and pay for shipping...if they would be so kind!

Or....

If someone has a fix on how to make mine run...

not to keep sterling from his money, but are you sure its a carb problem?
if it idles fine (rx's never idle fine if you ask me) then the carb has gotta be pretty damn allright.
could be an operator problem... is this your first carbuerated vehicle? (im not trying to flame or anything, but its harder and harder to find youngun's these days who can even identify a carb, let alone start one)

yea, how many times are you pumping the gas? if at all. you won't be able to just jump in and turn the key..... ok i take that back.. i can. but your carb may be just a tad out of whack. as "sparkien" said.. if it's idling well and driving well... then your carb is probably fine.

edit: i just thought about this a little more. if it needs starting fluid... I.E. more fuel for start up and pumping the gas isn't doing it. hmmm, have you checked your compression? and timing?

Yeah, I was thinking low compression too. This might be worth a try just to make sure your apex seals are nice and mobile (necessary for good compression). When your tank is down to 1/8 of a tank, dump in a whole can of SeaFoam (do not add more gas, keep the mixture very strong) then take it out and drive it like you stole it for a bit. Then let it sit over night before adding more gas to it (to soak the carb and other internals). This did wonders for my engine, about four miles down the road I actually felt something change and my power went through the roof. Lots smoother idle now too. Good luck with it.

but if it idles fine and runs well can it still have low compression. I always thought if the compression went down the idle had to go up and there was a good power loss.

todays FI cars r spoiling ppl when it comes to carbs. carbed engines need a little shot of fuel to start properly. like a previous post said, r u depressing the accel pedal at least once before trying to start it? the accel pump in my holley shoots alot of fuel so just one shot is all it takes to start it. with the stock carb, i've usually needed 2-3 shots to start since they don't spray as much.

trust me, i learned the hard way. it can seem like a completely normal engine when running.

Well friends- I wish this was a car that was driven allot- However it is a racecar! I have been around carburators since I was born. My first car was a Austin Healy Bugeye Sprite!!.... BRITISH! THOSE SU's! I am one of a million who can work with carbs. I can tune them- However I just have never had any luck with rebuilding one... Anyway... The car is sitting in the trailer right now- I am going to pull it out this weekend and pump the peddle a few times... I have been hitting it once...but maybe its going to take a little more to make it happy! Thanks so much for yalls continued support and help! We are racing at Road Atlanta the 11-13...so I am just trying to make sure everything is in working order.

I do not belive that it is low compression...because I went to a hill climb about 3 weeks ago and the car ran great pulled fine... exc. No smoke. Anyway... Thanks for the advice... maybe ill fire her up in the trailer and fumigate all the termintes! lol!

just to finish the thread: my car wont start unless i pump once and yank the chock till it hits some throttle advance when its 60 degrees outside

in the winter mornings my gf informs me it requires full choke to get goin, but you can back off after she starts up..
yeah, that goes for both of em *grin*

3 pumps, choke at half mast, crank her up. That's my morning routine...
