carbon fiber hood for 1gen?
I can make em if Kerebrus cant. but CF is not cheep.
for a pure CF pull off hood thats vacum formed "only way to get lighter than Eglass" its just under $700 just for mats, time is money and then there is shipping.
Things to look for in CF/FG parts
Hand layed sounds like it would be a good part and if done by a pro can look very nice and be real strong. But when you read stronger and has less weight they are talking about vacume formed parts not hand layed. A part that was hand layed can have too much resion making the part heavy and brittle. vacume forming gives a lot more control ofver the amount of resion to the amount of fabrics. CF needs a little less resion but the fabric its self also is stronger so you need less layers to make a part of the same strangth giving you a lighter part.
then the resion used plays a part in all this too. I would use a Vinyl Ester Resin its not clear so it will give a tint to the CF but its not that bad. It is resistent to all under hood fluids and high heat. others might use one thats more clear to give a better look but will soften by any of the fluids should there be a problem.
all in all. go FG there will be about a one lb change from Eglass to CF. so stock lets say 25lbs -> E-Glass $550 @ 12lbs -> CF $1200 11lbs.
if you want the look hell just have the top layer done in black fiberglass looks the same and is $15-$20 a yard insted of $80ish a yard. [/lesson rant thing]
