carb runs lean

i just put a carb on my 85 se and a air fuel gauge but for some reason it keeps reading lean when i jump on it and when i let off it goes into the stiometric area, any of the jets i change it still stays the same. The air fuel gauge is a automter. With just 3 wires how hard is it to hook up (purple) to the 02 sensor, (black wire) to the ground, and the igntion wire. Have i done something wrong.. Please help.. ty

Does the carb have access to enough fuel? I am assuming that your fuel pump is up to the task, and the filter is clean. Is that correct?

yeah i have the same problem. what about when the secondaries open, does the gauge read an even AFR??? around 14?? i aways thought that changing the primary jets would make a differnece....guess not. I even have a holley fuel pump, but my filter gets dirty fast cause i have some rust in my tank. Hopefully we can find something out to help us.

What kind of carb did you install? There should be some sort of enrichment system for accelleration that you could adjust to help with lean conditions.

A weber 40 IDF is not enough fuel for a 13B. I have seen even Weber 45DCOE not to be even enough. Go with a Weber or dellorto 48 or a holley.

A bigger accelerator pump shot is what you need. That and/or more flow in the transitional circuts. I dont know how youd do that on a weber. On any carb you should first check that your getting an adequate shot. Checkballs stick, needles jam, parts disappear (read: amateure overhauls and parts get left out) , **** happens. Ive gotten a few carbs with missing AP parts.
