Carb rebuild just finished, troubleshooting help needed.

Hey guys,

I need a couple of things,

First,
Does anyone know where all the springs attach (where the, choke line, gas pedal lines ... attach?) When I took the carb off i thought that i'd remember where they go but, i guess that my memory wasn't the greatest.

Secondly, this may seem like a stupid question but which holes are the primaries and which are the secondaries? Also when starting the car, which ones should be injecting fuel.

Thanks

request a pix. much easier to follow.

primaries are the smaller ones, towards the engine.

idle jet.

Alright ... pic request of where things go would be great.

The idle jets are the ones in the primaries. Correct?

Also one more thing, when i blow just air through the fuel intake, gas starts pouring through the secondaries. Does that sound normal?

And for anyone that doesn't know about my carb story, before i rebuilt the carb, the car wouldn't start if gas went down in the primaries, it would just run if gas was poured in the secondaries. At least now it works with both.

No, the idle jets are internal in the carb. You cant see any fuel being delivered at idle cuase its below the throttle plates. .

Yes, your blowing air into the bowls causing them to overflow most likely.

Post a pic of where your cables are hooked up and we'll get you right.

If you see fuel being shot in, it's from the accelerator pump nozzel between the primaries.

I have two carb manuals in PDF form. I can't remember where I downloaded them from, but if you PM me with your email address I'll send them to you. cdrad51 probably has the links to download them. hell, he's probably got pics too. I'm surprised he hasn't posted something already.

Hmm, I'm not by my car, so can't look, but I think it's throtle cable, cruise control cable, hot start cable, starting from firewall side. The choke one is obvious.

Is that what you wanted to know?

No, i have already figured out where all the cables attach. I need to know where the springs attach in that area.

There's a tab under the main bracket right in fron (by the accelerator pum housing cover). It sticks out. back toward the carb, and is completely hidden from site. It has a little-bitty hole in it, and there ya are. (It's really not super important.)

alright,

well good news, I can now get the car to start by "itself", but it just won't idle. I need to pump it gas in order to keept it running. That would mean its a vacumm leak right?
I should also add that, when i let the engine die, It will not start by itself again unless it cools down. What would that be? Thanks

I haven't touched any of them during the rebuild process, left them as it from before. Also i actually noticed something, the car will only start if there's any resedue ATF still in te carb or the engine, If there its, it won't start, but as soon as i pour more down the carb, the car will fire right up, it won't idle but i can keep it running for as long as i want by pressing gas, and it has to stay above about 900rpms

I think that i might of figured out the best way if it start up like this everytime, well people were saying to put it in the cold start assist to get smokey gas to come out the rear, i might need this to start up the car everytime, and then i could have a legit excuse. LOL. Just a thought, maybe i should try it out. But on a more serious note, anything more permanent would be great. Thanks

Alright,

So i try to start the car again, and no luck, now it won't do anything and the engine seems to keep on flooding. I have attached all the spring now and everything, I'm still kind trying to make sure all the hoses are in the right spot. why is this thing making my head spin instead of its rotors?

tap lightly above the fuel inlet lines on top of the carb (right above where the floats reside). your needle valves could be sticking, causing gas to flow by them and flood the engine. can you see fuel flowing into the carb with the ignition in the "on" position before the car is started? also, you could have a vaccum leak maybe?? perhaps someone can post a pic of their carby installed with all the lines and linkages visible?

No i don't see any fuel going in there when its in the on position, but as mentioned earlier, someone said that the idle fuel wouldn't be seen from the top, so it could be that, and today i took out the carb again to get all the spring installed and stuff, well after doing that, now the choke plate in the carburator won't move if i pull the cable??? it was working fine before i took it off?
