not sure what u mean by spongy. just make sure there's as little slack as possible in the throttle cable. it's been a while since i dealt with the stock carb but r u sure those fuel lines aren't backwards?

if they were backwards it wouldn't run at all would it?

By spongy I mean it's really easy to press and not very responsive. Also I just realized that I can rev the engine by opening the secondaries. Shouldn't it bog down if open the secondaries at idle?

the return spring may just be weak. i too have been able to rev one with the secondaries. as far as i know it would still run if the lines were reversed.

The fuel lines aren't supposed to cross are they? I think they're supposed to run parallel to eachother I'll see if I can find some pics. On my other carb if I opened the secondaries at idle the car would stumble and die but that carb was pretty rough so idk.

the fuel lines crossing over each other makes no difference. like i said it's been a while. but i believe the larger of the two metal lines on the carb is the supply side.

ok so i twisted the return spring so that its tighter and it feels better now but it still feels like im lacking some power and throttle response. gonna fine tune it and try to figure out how tight the throttle cable needs to be tomorrow. any other suggestions on what to check/adjust?

Bigger line is supply - small one is return.

from what i've read in the past the carb spacer has the gaskets made on them so no need to use another one.

In that case I'm gonna need to find a new spacer cuz the gaskets on mine are in rough shape.

The lines look okay. The larger line is the supply and smaller line is the return. Last carb rebuild I did I had to adjust the throttle cable with a few spacers due to slack.
Adjust the cable, fine tune the carby, adjust timing ( could be off) and de-grease the hell out of your engine bay!

Why not just tune the carb you just rebuilt instead of taking apart two carbs?

I dont think it should be a problem. Im not sure what the differences are between S1 -S2 carbs. Maybe the jetting might be different? Why not try to fine the carb you just rebuilt(83)? Its not hard especially if you have a wideband.

Joe, you have been told to keep your related threads in one thread? you already asked this same question in your existing carburetor thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also it would be appreciated if you would start thinking on your own and you now have the record for the amount of questions that you have asked on this site.

In the future if you cannot find a answer(most of your threads started could have been answered by searching for more than a couple of minutes) then find a related thread and bump it up so we don't have so many repeat threads on the subjects that you are asking about.
